How to Send Your DICOM Files for a Radiology Report

A simple, step-by-step guide to sharing your medical images securely with the ai-PACS radiology team.

The most important rule: Please send your images in DICOM format only. We are unable to process JPEG images, screenshots, or photographs of printed films, because these versions remove the diagnostic detail our radiologists need to prepare an accurate report.

The ai-PACS radiology team can review your medical images and prepare a professional report. To make sure we can read your study correctly and give you a reliable second opinion, the images must reach us in their original diagnostic quality. This short guide explains exactly what to send, how to send it, and what to include alongside your files.

What Is a DICOM File?

DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) is the standard file format used by hospitals and imaging centers for MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammography, and other scans. Unlike a regular photo, a DICOM file preserves the full resolution and the technical measurements a radiologist relies on. This is why a screenshot or a phone photo of a film is not enough — the essential clinical information is lost.

Please do not send:

  • JPEG or PNG images
  • Screenshots of your scan
  • Photographs of printed films
  • PDF reports without the underlying DICOM images

How to Get Your DICOM Files

Your imaging center can provide your study in DICOM format in one of these common ways:

  • On a CD or DVD given to you after your scan (the files inside are DICOM).
  • Through a patient portal or download link from the imaging center.
  • By copying the full study folder onto a USB drive.

If you received a disc, you can copy the entire contents to your computer and then upload it to us. If you are unsure, simply ask your imaging center for "the images in DICOM format."

Ways to Send Your Files

You can share your DICOM files using whichever of the following methods is easiest for you:

Google Drive

Upload your files and share the link with us.

Dropbox

Share a folder or file link.

WeTransfer

Free for large studies — send to our email.

Imaging center link

A direct download link from your provider.

WhatsApp

DICOM files only, sent as documents.

This chat platform

Attach your files directly to your message.

Sending a ZIP file? Please make sure it contains the complete DICOM study and that the archive is not empty or corrupted before you send it. A partial or damaged file can delay your report.

What to Include With Your Files

To help our radiologists focus the report on what matters most to you, please send the following along with your images:

  • A brief clinical history (your relevant medical background).
  • Your main concerns or the specific questions you would like answered.
  • Any prior reports or scans, if available, for comparison.

How Your Images Are Reviewed

Your study is reviewed by a qualified medical radiology team. Artificial intelligence is used only as a supportive tool to assist our radiologists — it never replaces the expert judgment of a board-certified physician. The final report reflects the assessment of an experienced radiologist.
